The grassy dome of Maunga Terevaka is the island’s highest ground. On a clear day you can visually connect Anakena, Ahu Akivi, and the distant motu.

Unlike the dramatic coastal ahu, Terevaka is about scale and silence—horses, scattered volcanic outcrops, and the whole island at your feet.
Hiking notes
Wind speeds double every few hundred metres of gain; trekking poles help on eroded cattle trails. Carry more water than you think — no streams are reliable in summer.
Tip
Wind and sun are intense; start early. Details and maps also appear in our hiking guide; guided options are listed under Tours → Terevaka.
