What we collect and why
When you visit the website
Like every website, our server receives technical information from your browser, such as your IP address, your browser type and the page you ask for. We use it to deliver the pages and to keep the website secure.
When you sign in
To write a review or manage a business, you sign in with your Google account. Google then shares your name, email address and profile picture with us, and we store them in your account together with the technical sign-in data Google provides. We never see your Google password. We use your email address only to identify your account; we don't send you newsletters or advertising.
When you write a review
We store your rating and text with your account. Your review is published on the website with the date and the name in your profile, which at first is your name as it appears on your Google account, and with your country and city if you add them to your profile. You can change your profile, and edit or delete your reviews, at any time on your account page.
When you add or manage a business
If you add a hotel, restaurant or show, claim one that is listed, or join the team that manages it, we store the business details you enter — its name, description, contact email address, phone numbers, website and social media links, location and photos — and publish them on the business's page. Your account is linked to the business with the role you choose: your name and role are shown with the business's replies to reviews, and the other members of its team see your name and email address. Before photos are published, we resize them and remove the data embedded in them, such as the camera model and GPS position. We tell our team by email when a business is added or claimed, so that we can check it.
When you invite a colleague to the team, we store their email address and send them one email with the invitation.
Businesses' descriptions and photo captions are translated into the website's other languages automatically, with Claude, Anthropic's AI service.
When you contact us
The contact form sends your name, email address, subject and message to our team by email, and a confirmation copy to you. These messages are not stored on the website; we keep them in our mailbox for as long as we need them to help you.
When you book a tour
Tours are booked in the TourTask booking system, which is embedded on our tour pages. The details you enter there are processed by TourTask, the booking system we use, to make and manage your booking.
Statistics
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the website: which pages they visit, how they find us, and which device, browser and approximate location (country or city) they have. Google Analytics uses cookies for this. We only see statistics, not who you are.
We process this data to provide what you ask for (your account, your reviews, your business's listing, an answer to your message, your booking), for our legitimate interest in running a secure and useful website, and, for statistics, with your consent where the law requires it.
Cookies
Cookies are small files that a website stores in your browser. We use:
- Necessary cookies, which keep you signed in and protect the sign-in process. Without them you can't sign in.
- Statistics cookies from Google Analytics (their names start with _ga), which count visits and show us how the website is used.
Some pages show content from other services, which may store data in your browser or receive your IP address: the films on our documentaries page are YouTube videos in privacy-enhanced mode, the maps on place and business pages come from OpenStreetMap, and the booking system on our tour pages is TourTask's.
You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings, and stop Google Analytics with Google's opt-out browser add-on.
Who we share data with
We don't sell your personal data. We only share it:
- with the service providers that run parts of the website for us: Google (sign-in and statistics), our web hosting and email providers, TourTask (bookings) and Anthropic (the translation of businesses' texts);
- publicly, when you publish a review (your name, rating and text) or content about a business (its details and photos, and with its replies to reviews your name and role);
- when the law requires us to.
Links to other websites, such as Booking.com for hotels, TripAdvisor and social networks, take you to services with their own privacy policies.
Some of these providers, such as Google, may process data outside Chile and outside your country.
How long we keep it
- Your account data: as long as your account exists.
- Your reviews: until you delete them, or until we remove them under our terms of use.
- Business listings, their photos and replies to reviews: until the business's team or we remove them. Your link to a business: until you leave its team or are removed from it.
- Invitations to a business's team: until they are accepted, declined or withdrawn; unanswered ones are deleted after 14 days.
- Messages from the contact form: as long as we need them to answer you.
- Statistics: for the retention period set in Google Analytics.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it, to limit how we use it, or to give it to you in a portable format. You can also object to how we use it and withdraw your consent at any time.
You can change your profile, edit and delete your reviews, and leave the teams of businesses yourself on your account page. To delete your account or to make any other request, write to us through our contact form. If you think we handle your data wrongly, you can also complain to the data protection authority in your country.
Children
This website is not meant for children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their personal data.
Security
The website uses an encrypted connection (HTTPS), and only the people who run it can access the data. No system is completely secure, but we work to protect your data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the website changes. The date at the top shows the latest version.
