Hanga Roa waterfront

Franco-Belgian cooking with Polynesian touches and an ocean-view terrace

Au Bout du Monde is a long-standing upscale restaurant on Policarpo Toro, the coastal road, near Hanga Vare Vare. Its owner has run it for more than 25 years, pairing Franco-Belgian cooking with local and Polynesian touches: Tahitian-style raw fish, tuna steak in vanilla sauce, shrimp in lime and coconut milk, and Belgian chocolate desserts.

The upper-level terrace looks out over the ocean and is a good spot for cocktails, and some nights feature Polynesian dance. Guests rate it highly. Booking ahead is wise in high season, and opening days differ between sources, so confirm first.

Au Bout Du Monde serves Belgian and Polynesian food. It's surprising to see how desolate of people this restaurant is, while having such great food, good service and being centrally located in Hanga Vare-Vare with ocean view, before Vai Te Mihi and the cemetery. Au Bout Du Monde has the most tender meat of Rapa Nui, imported from the south of Chile.
