Hanga Roa waterfront

Open-air seafood at the harbour's edge, with waves breaking close by

La Kaleta sits at the water's edge in Caleta Hanga Roa, next to a dive shop, with a wide ocean view and waves breaking just metres away. It is one of the better-rated restaurants in town.

Seafood leads: ceviche, prawn curry, warm fish salad and the grilled catch of the day, plus local dishes such as caldillo, a hot fish and seafood soup, and papas Vaiani topped with cheese sauce, octopus and shrimp. Specials go on a chalkboard, and the pisco sour has a good reputation.

Kaleta is beautifully built using only wood. Location couldn't be better, being located just by the ocean at the end of the peninsula of the central harbor. Food and service is good.
