Park rules mean the iconic moai circuit is mainly a guided experience—tours are how most visitors see the major sites properly.

Easter Island offers a huge range of unique sights—from ancient villages and monuments to dramatic coastlines and volcanic craters. To reach most archaeological areas, a guide is required under national park rules, so to discover the island you will need to book tours.

What tours should I take?

To discover all of the main archaeological sites, you'll need two full days of touring. Some tour operators split one of those full-day tours into two half-day tours. The exact itinerary and layout of those tours may vary between tour operators, but local companies know the sites well, and they know which sites are important for any traveler to see.

Many tour operators can accommodate custom requests if you contact them directly.

After seeing the archaeological sites, there are also other tours to take, and what's on offer can vary greatly between operators. Other tour activities may include hiking, boat trips, photography, and more.

What to do after tours

On free days, or on afternoons after your tours, Rapa Nui offers many things to do in spite of its small size. Browse things to do for different tastes and interests—such as seeing a dance show, going scuba diving, or just having an ice cream while you turtle-spot by the coast.
