Historical and Archaeological Private tours on Rapa Nui (Easter Island)
If you are looking for private tours on Rapa Nui, you have come to the right place. We are the #1 agency on TripAdvisor for Easter Island, and for years we have been designing tours for travelers who want to get to know the island in depth—not just in passing.

Easter Island, or Rapa Nui (known as Rapa Nui in the local language), is one of the most isolated places on the planet. Located in the middle of the Pacific—over 3,700 kilometers from the nearest continent—it possesses a unique character that cannot be improvised. Getting here requires planning, and the experience is well worth organizing carefully.
All our tours are private and include transportation, a bilingual guide, and refreshments, with pickup from your accommodation. The entrance ticket to Rapa Nui National Park is not included; you should purchase it beforehand at rapanuinationalpark.com to select the option that best suits your trip to Rapa Nui.

Hiking and Nature Tours in Rapa Nui (Easter Island)
Terevaka Hike

- Duration: 6h 30min
- Level: Easy to moderate
- Distance walked: +4 km
- Elevation: 140–500 m
Terevaka is the highest point on Rapa Nui, at 507 meters above sea level. From the summit you get a full 360° view of the island: all three volcanic cones, the coastline in every direction, and on a clear day, the Pacific horizon with nothing else in sight.
The hike starts from Ahu Akivi and doesn’t require technical experience. It’s one of the highest-reward tours on the island for the effort it takes.

Note: All tours include private transport, bilingual guide, and water. National park entrance fee not included.
Poike Hike

- Duration: 5h 30min
- Level: Moderate
- Distance walked: +9 km
Explore Poike volcano and unique sites such as Vai a Heva and Ana O Keke (Virgin’s Cave), with spectacular landscapes and ancestral stories.
Note: All tours include private transport, bilingual guide, and water. National park entrance fee not included.
North Coast Hike

- Duration: 7h
- Level: High difficulty
- Distance walked: +18 km
The most demanding tour we offer, and the one that takes you into the most isolated part of the island. Eighteen kilometers along the north coast — no pavement, no crowds — with stops at Ana Kakenga, Ana Te Pora, Te Peu, Vai Matā, Omohi, Ahu Atanga and a finish at Anakena beach.
This hike isn’t for everyone, and that’s part of what makes it special. You’ll need good fitness, proper trekking footwear and a willingness to walk for hours on uneven terrain. A guide is essential: several stretches have no markings and some sites are impossible to find without local knowledge.

Note: All tours include private transport, bilingual guide, and water. National park entrance fee not included.
Adventure and Cave Tours
Cave Trip

- Duration: 3h 30min
- Level: Moderate (some crawling required)
- Distance walked: +3 km
The island’s underground circuit covers four sites in the west and central zones: Ana Te Pahu, Te Peu, Ana Te Pora and Ana Kakenga — the two-window cave, which ends with two natural openings directly above a sea cliff on the Pacific.
The access road is too rough for regular vehicles, which keeps this area quiet. These caves weren’t decorative — they were homes, refuges and living spaces for Rapanui people for centuries. There’s evidence of deliberate modifications and everyday domestic life inside them.
Bring a flashlight. Your guide goes first.
Note: All tours include private transport, bilingual guide, and water. National park entrance fee not included.

Boat Trip to Birdman Isle

- Duration: 2h
- Level: Easy
Seeing Rapa Nui from the water completely changes your sense of the island. The boat follows the coast of the Rano Kau volcano out to Motu Nui — the islet where the Birdman competition took place, the ritual that determined who would lead the island each year.
From the water you see the cliffs, the coastal caves and the sheer scale of the terrain in a way that’s simply not possible from land.
Note: All tours include private transport, bilingual guide, and water. National park entrance fee not included.

Sunrise at Tongariki

- Level: Easy
Our most requested private tour in Rapa Nui, all year round. We pick you up at your accommodation before dawn, drive you out to Ahu Tongariki and stand with you in front of the 15 moai as the sun rises out of the Pacific Ocean behind the ahu.
The pickup time shifts with the season — we calculate the exact time so you arrive with room to breathe, not rushing. Your local guide provides context on the history of the ahu while you wait for the light.

FAQ
Why choose a private tour in Rapa Nui over a group tour? Group tours in the traditional sense don’t really work here. The island is small, the sites are sensitive, and large groups affect everyone’s experience. A private tour means you go at your own pace, ask questions without feeling rushed, and stop wherever you want for photos.
How far in advance should I book? We recommend booking at least 48–72 hours ahead. During high season — January to March and July to August — give yourself more lead time.
Are the tours suitable for all ages? The easy-level tours work for most ages and fitness levels. Moderate and high-difficulty tours require good physical condition and proper footwear. If you’re traveling with young children or older adults, get in touch before booking and we’ll find the right fit.
What if it rains? Rapa Nui’s weather moves fast. Light rain doesn’t stop the tours. If conditions affect safety, we’ll coordinate with you in advance to reschedule or adjust the itinerary.
Do the guides speak English? Yes. All our guides are bilingual in Spanish and English. Some also speak other languages — ask us if you have specific needs.
Below, we have included some supplementary articles to help you delve deeper into the history, culture, and various sites of Rapa Nui, ensuring an even more enriching experience on the island.
